The project offers a strong competitive advantage through its ability to produce high-purity MgO locally at a fraction of the cost of imported products, making MASMAG™ significantly more affordable for industry. Its eco-extraction process is environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and generates zero waste, positioning it ahead of conventional production methods. The technology consistently delivers ≥99% purity with reliable yields, comparable to leading international brands, while leveraging Malaysia’s abundant dolomite reserves. Together, these strengths enable a sustainable, cost-effective, and high-quality alternative that reduces import dependence and enhances national industrial capability.

Malaysia has an abundant dolomite reserve of over 600 million metric tonnes, yet this mineral is sold cheaply as a low-value raw material and remains underutilised in high-value industries. At the same time, the country relies heavily on imported high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO), importing approximately 50,000 metric tonnes in 2023. This dependence exposes Malaysia to supply risks, high costs, and missed industrial opportunities. The absence of a local, high-purity, environmentally friendly MgO production technology limits Malaysia’s ability to develop downstream industries, capture market value, and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

The project introduces MASMAG™, an eco-extraction technology that produces high-purity magnesium oxide (MgO) from Malaysian dolomite using a water-based process at room temperature. This innovative method is chemical-free, energy-efficient, and generates zero waste while delivering MgO with a purity of ≥99%. The solution enables Malaysia to locally manufacture high-quality MgO at significantly lower cost compared to imported products, strengthening domestic supply, creating new industrial value, and supporting sustainable mineral processing.

The project’s core innovation lies in its eco-extraction technology, which produces high-purity magnesium oxide from dolomite using a chemical-free, water-based process carried out at room temperature. This approach is significantly more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than conventional high-heat or acid-based methods. It delivers consistently high product purity (≥99%), generates zero waste through the recovery of valuable calcium carbonate, and offers a cost-effective pathway for local MgO production. This breakthrough transforms a low-value mineral into a high-value industrial material while minimising environmental impact.
