The technology integrates advanced photocatalysis with membrane filtration to create a self-cleaning system that degrades and filters pollutants simultaneously, reducing membrane fouling and lowering operational and maintenance costs. This results in a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective wastewater treatment solution compared to conventional membrane systems.

Organic, inorganic & biological fouling accummulated on membrane surfaces & block membranes pores reduces permeability & efficiency. Regular cleaning & replacement of membranes operational expenses, while chemical cleaning agents & anti-fouling agents add to the costs & can have significant environmental impacts

The project introduces photocatalytic membrane which is capable of degrading & filtering pollutants, thus contributing to the self-cleaning effect for fouling mitigation. This functionalities will help to reolve fouling issues & simultaneously reduce operational & maintenance cost

UV light is used to activate photocatalyst in the hybrid photocatalytic membranes that triggers a catalytic reaction that breaks down organic compounds into non-toxic substances. Membranes filtration is used to separate the clean water from harmful pollutants, such as bacteria, heavy metals & organic chemicals
